Seoul - Past, Present and Future in Harmony - 8 days
7 nights Seoul Tour
The first human settlement in the Seoul region traces
back 6,000 years. About 2,000 years ago, three kingdoms
emerged on the Korean peninsula, among them Baekje, which
governed the present area of Seoul. In 1392 the Joseon
Dynasty was established and Seoul has been the nation's
capital and served as the political, economic and educational
hub of Korea ever since.
The long historic background of Seoul has handed down
a wealth of precious cultural remnants from Stone-Age
chipped tools, ancient tombs, palaces and fortresses,
to neo-modern temples. When the economy started booming
in the 1960s, Seoul burgeoned into a metropolis of 10.8
million. By some calculations Seoul now rates as the world's
fifth largest city. And yet, timeless patches of ancient
architecture and cultural vestiges are kept well intact
in the alleys behind today's skyscrapers to surprise visitors
all over again.
